The philosophy of Solution-Focused Counseling shifts the psychotherapeutic paradigm from problem-based therapy to solution-based therapy. Solution-Focused Counseling empowers patients so that they can make desired changes in their lives. It operates on the assumption that patients have the necessary internal strengths and resources to create unique solutions to their problems. It emphasizes strengths, competencies and possibilities rather than weaknesses, deficits and limitations. All individuals have their unique strengths and Solution-Focused Counseling helps patients to explore and develop their own sense of agency.
